About
Canal+1 HD History, Coverage, Features
Canal+ 1 is a Polish-language television channel owned and operated by Canal+ Polska. It is one of 12 channels operated by the Canal+ brand in Poland. It was initially launched on November 13, 2004 as Canal+ Sport 2, but it would later be rebranded as Canal+ Gol in 2011. That change of name did not last long, as it would undergo a new rebranding in 2013, this time as Canal+ 2 Family. In 2015, the channel would change its name to Canal+ 1.
Over the years, Canal+ 1 was labeled as a sports channel, but with its latest rebranding came with a new approach for the channel, as it was turned into a timeshift channel, meaning that all content aired on this channel had been previously aired on Canal+ Premium. All content aired on Canal+ 1 is available one hour after its original broadcast on Canal+ Premium.
With this change, Canal+ 1 has been considered as a general interest channel, with films, news reports, sports events, TV series, and more being available on this channel. Canal+ 1 does not have a regular tv programming grid, as all its content is subject to Canal+ Premium’s offering.
When it comes to sports, Canal+ 1 has covered quite a large variety of disciplines, which have included football, rugby, basketball, motorsports, golf, and mixed martial arts. Football competitions covered on this platform have included the Polish Ekstraklasa, the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1, and the Spanish Primera División over the years.
During its early days, Canal+ 1 was conceived and launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition was made available in the 2010s. Both feeds may still be available for users to watch in Poland.
