About ESPN3
ESPN 2 is the Brazilian sister channel for ESPN. It is owned by the Walt Disney Company and by Hearst Communications, who launched the channel on April 29, 2009. The Brazilian version of the U.S-based network has operated four channels (ESPN Brasil, ESPN, ESPN 2, and ESPN Extra), and one streaming service comprising all of their TV feeds.
Just like its American counterpart, ESPN 2 specializes in sports coverage. The network has covered various disciplines over the years, which have included football, action sports, baseball, basketball, boxing college sports, cricket, cycling, esports, futsal, golf, American football, handball, horse racing, ice hockey, marathon, mixed martial arts, motorsports, poker, rugby, surf, tennis, volleyball, and yatching.
Each of the channels operated by ESPN in Brasil is dedicated to cover specific disciplines. In ESPN 2’s case, the focus of the channel has been to air U.S.-based competitions, such as NBA games, MLB games, NFL matches, or NHL games. Over the years, other sports covered by ESPN 2 have included rugby, poker, cycling, and surfing.
ESPN’s football coverage over the years has included the following leagues and international competitions: English Premier League, La Liga, the Primeira Liga, the Eredivisie, the Chinese Super League, the American Major League Soccer, and Mexico’s Liga de Expansión, UEFA Women’s Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and friendly competitions such as the Audi Cup, the Premier League Asia Trophy, the Emirates Cup, and the Joan Gamper Trophy. FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches for the African Football Confederation and CONCACAF have also been aired on this channel.
ESPN started out as a SD channel back in the day. Nevertheless, an HD feed of this channel was made available for users since March 2011. A downscaled version of this feed is available for users who are not able to watch the HD feed.
