About La Une
La Une is a Belgian television channel owned and operated by the Radio-télévision belge de la Communauté française, or RTBF. It was launched on October 31, 1953, under the name INR. Seven years later, the channel’s name would be changed to RTB, and that name would stick until 1977 when the channel’s name was changed to RTBF1. The channel would drop the number one from its name to be referred to as RTBF La Une in 2004.
Over the years, La Une has been known as a general interest channel, offering content to almost all demographics. Cultural shows, news broadcasts, entertainment programs, game shows, tv series from different countries, and sports broadcasts have all found a spot in the channel’s programming grid over time.
Speaking about sports, the channel has aired content for disciplines such as football, basketball, and motorsports. Football competitions covered on this channel over the years have included the UEFA European Championship, the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers, and the FIFA World Cup. In fact, some of the highest-rated shows in this channel’s history have something to do with a football broadcast.
La Une started as an analog channel, and it evolved into an SD channel during the 1990s. Then, the channel added a High-Definition feed in 2011. Both feeds may still be available for users to watch.
