Sjuan History, Coverage, Features
Sjuan is a Swedish television channel owned and operated by the TV4 Group. This channel was launched on March 9, 2003 as TV4 Plus, but it would be rebranded to Sjuan in September 2011.
Back when it was named TV4 Plus, the idea was to turn this network into a sports channel, but its parent company decided to increase the kind of topics that could be available on this channel. Eventually, Sjuan became a general entertainment channel, with lifestyle shows, sports, news broadcasts, TV series and movies made their way into the channel’s grid.
Speaking about sports, Sjuan specialized on broadcasting football competitions from around the world, both for clubs and for youth national teams. Some of the competitions covered by this network over the years have included La Liga, the Italian Serie A, and different editions of the UEFA U-21 European championship. In fact, one of the most-watched events in the channel was a game for the U-21 tournament back in 2009.
Sjuan was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but its rebranding brought a new era that came with a High-Definition feed. Both feeds may still be available in certain regions and on some pay-tv carriers across the country.
