5 Gold is an Israeli television channel owned and operated by the RGE Communications Group. This channel was launched in March 2007 as a new option for the growing network of 5 Sport’s channels.
Over the years, 5 Gold has been known for airing documentaries and classic sports competitions from all over the globe, while also including live coverage for some of the most relevant tournaments in the globe for disciplines such as football, basketball, motorsports, handball, volleyball, baseball, mixed martial arts, and ice hockey. Both domestic and international competitions have been aired on this channel, while additional coverage such as highlights shows, and sports magazine programs have also been included in the channel’s programming.
Speaking about football, 5 Gold has covered games tournaments such as the English Premier League, the French Ligue 1, the Polish Ekstraklasa, the Israeli Premier League, the Austrian Bundesliga, the J1-League, and the A-League. Other top-caliber competitions aired by this channel have included the UEFA Champions League.
5 Gold was launched as a Standard Definition channel, and since its content has mostly included documentaries and overflow coverage of football games, the decision has been made not to give this channel an HD feed. Games aired in High-Definition have been downscaled to fit this channel over the years.
