About Sportsnet World
Sportsnet World is an English-language sports channel located in Canada. It is owned by Rogers Media and it was launched on August 10, 2007 under the name Setanta Sports. It was later re-branded as Sportsnet 2, but it finally acquired its current name after Rogers Media operated a major rebranding of its channels in 2011. Despite being part of the Sportsnet family, Sportsnet World does not carry any of the properties owned by Sportsnet, Sportsnet One or any of the network’s regional feeds.
Sportsnet World has focused on broadcasting team sports played in Europe, such as association football and rugby. Sportsnet World has broadcast live and repeat Premier League games, along with Bundesliga matches. Added to those properties, Sportsnet World has aired FA Cup games and DFL-Supercup clashes. Their rugby coverage has seen this channel broadcasting games from the British Super League and from the National Rugby League in Australia.
Sportsnet World has been available in HD even when the channel was known as Setanta Sports. It maintained its HD capabilities when the channel was rebranded to Sportsnet World in 2011, and there is also a SD format available for select carriers. Unlike Sportsnet and Sportsnet One, Sportsnet World has not aired any games in Ultra HD -4k- format.
