About Startimes Sports Focus

Star Times Sports is a network of sports channels that broadcasts content in Sub-Saharan Africa. The network’s first attempt to broadcast sports came in 2012, when the company acquired broadcasting rights to air games for the Italian Serie A. The first Star Times channel saw the light on July 19, 2014.

Over the years, StarTimes Sports has covered some of the most popular disciplines in the world, including football, basketball, motorsport, rugby, aquatics, tennis, boxing, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, golf, mixed martial arts, wrestling, and more. The network has divided its coverage into specific channels over the years, which have included StarTimes Sports Arena, StarTimes Sports Focus, StarTimes Sports Life, StarTimes Sports Premium, StarTimes World Football, and StarTimes Sports 1, StarTimes Sports 2, and StarTimes Sports 3.

StarTimes Sports Focus has been used by the network to broadcast news, highlights, and interviews. Added to those tasks, StarTimes Sports Focus has also been used as an overflow channel for football events whenever necessary, especially when it comes to covering UEFA Champions League games, UEFA Europa League matches, UEFA Euro Qualifiers, and other football events.

StarTimes Sports Focus was launched as a Standard Definition channel.

Startimes Sports Focus Broadcast Rights

	Spain - La Liga (2020-2024) Pay-tv broadcaster StarTimes has acquired French-language media rights for the Spanish La Liga in sub-Saharan Africa for four seasons. The deal between StarTimes and LaLiga covers four seasons, from 2020-21 to 2023-24 and includes all 380 matches. The games will be aired in 47 African countries on television and will be available to stream live online on StarTimes ON—the network’s OTT platform.

	Africa Cup of Nations Qualification (2022-2023) StarTimes has secured English-language broadcast rights for the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers in Ghana. Coverage of the live matches is set to be slated on StarTimes Sports channels – including Sports Arena, Sports Focus, Sports Life, Sports Premium, and World Football. Live streaming is also expected on digital platform StarTimes ON, which is available on various devices.
	Spain - Segunda Division (2020-2024) Sub-Saharan pay-television broadcaster StarTimes has secured French-language rights to the Spanish Segunda División from 2020-21 to 2023-24. Live matches from the promotion playoffs will be aired on StarTimes’ linear channels and OTT platform.
