About

TF1 Live History, Coverage, Features

French Television 1, or most known for its acronym, TF1, is the first and oldest television channel in France. It was launched on April 25, 1935 under the name Radio-PTT Vision. After several rebrands, it settled for Premiere Chain de l’ORTF until 1975, when it was named TF1. The channel was a public network until 1987, when the TF1 Group bought its majority share. It has been frequently referred to as the most popular and watched television channel in all of Europe due to its audience numbers, even if their share ratings have lowered in recent years due to all multimedia options available in the country. TF1 has also been available in neighboring countries such as Andorra, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, and Monaco.

TF1 has been labeled as a general interest channel, with news broadcasts, magazine shows, entertainment programs, TV series, reality shows, TV movies, and sports being broadcast over the years by this network. The handling of some news items and an alleged political inclination have generated controversy around the channel, but that has not influenced its general audience numbers.

Speaking about sports, TF1 has made quite a profit on broadcasting disciplines such as football, American football, ice hockey, handball, rugby, tennis, Olympic games, and more. The network has reported in the past that the highest rated shows in channel history have had something to do with sports.

When it comes to football, TF1 has aired some club competitions over the years, including games for the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League. TF1 has also covered international games featuring National teams, such as various editions of the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and some friendly games for Les Bleus.

TF1 launched a website referred to as TF1, which allows users to stream live content aired on the terrestrial channel. The website has been divided in topics, which makes it easier for users to find the content they were looking for. The online service has also offered the option to watch programs after their initial broadcast.
