TVB Jade, or simply Jade, is a television channel from Hong Kong that is owned and operated by Televisions Broadcast Limited. The channel was launched on November 19, 1967 as the flagship channel for TVB, and has frequently been named as the most popular channel in Hong Kong, enjoying large viewership numbers during primetime hours. This channel has aired its content mostly in Cantonese, although alternate audio tracks for Mandarin, English, and other languages may be available.
Over the years, Jade has been known as a general entertainment channel, with news, drama shows, leisure programs, animated shows, variety programs, sports broadcasts, and more. The channel has also included shows from regional affiliates as part of its license agreement with the country’s government, adding cultural shows and children’s programming to its offer.
When it comes to sports, TVB Jade has focused on covering disciplines such as football, dragon-boat racing, motorsports, and multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games. Football matches aired on this channel have included FIFA World Cup matches.
TVB Jade was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on December 31, 2007, replacing the SD option as the primary way to watch this feed. A downscaled version of the HD feed was made available for users to watch the channel if they do not own access to HD technology.
