TVNorge History, Coverage, Features
TVNorge is a Norwegian television channel operated by Discovery Networks Norway and owned by Discovery Communications. The channel was launched on December 5, 1988, when it became the first Norwegian channel that supported advertising.
Over the years, TVNorge has been known as a general interest channel, with news, sports, sitcoms, movies, documentaries, drama series, weather reports, and other topics being the core of the channel’s programming. In what turned out to be a controversial decision, the channel decided to eliminate news shows, sports programs and weather reports to give the network a focus on entertainment and leave specialized channels handle those topics.
Speaking about sports, TVNorge has been used as an overflow channel to Eurosport in Norway to broadcast certain high-profile events, such as the Summer Olympic Games or the Winter Olympic Games, to which Eurosport owns broadcasting rights.
TVNorge was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but years later, it became the first television channel in Norway to launch its High-Definition feed in 2008. Users who do not have access to that sort of technology may be able to watch a downscaled version of the channel in some regions of the country.
