About Second Division
Second Division History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Kategoria e Parë (Second Division) is the second tier of men’s professional football in Albania. Founded in 1930 and organized by the Albanian Football Association (FSHF), it operates on a relegation-promotion system - quite like many other leagues in Europe and around the world.
The top two teams in the Kategoria e Parë are promoted to the Kategoria Superiore (First Division), while the last two teams in the Kategoria e Parë are demoted to the Kategoria e Dytë (Third Division).
Luftëtari was the most successful team in Kategoria e Parë history until the team’s dissolution in 2020.
During the 1960s up until the 1990s, broadcast rights to the Kategoria e Parë in Albania were held by public broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH). However, starting in the 2000s, the media rights were sold to a variety of paid-TV providers, including SuperSport Albania and DigitAlb.
In the mid 2010s, Radio Televizioni Shqiptar reacquired broadcast rights to the Kategoria e Parë in a multi-year deal, and have since continued to show matches both via its TV channels as well as live-streaming them online for viewers in Albania.
