The Campeonato Mineiro 1, also referred to as Módulo I, is the top-flight league for the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and is run by the Minas Gerais Football Federation. The tournament began in 1915, with Atletico Mineiro winning the inaugural title.

The format of Módulo I is simple: 12 teams from the region are placed into one group for the first stage in a single round-robin, meaning each club faces every other side only once. The eight best-placed teams after the first round is completed move on to the knockout stage while the bottom two teams get relegated to the second division (Módulo II).

The eight teams that emerge from the first stage move on to the quarter-finals, which is the only one-off tie in the knockout stage – the semi-finals and final are two-legged affairs. In the last eight, the home advantage goes to the side that placed higher in the first round. In the last four, the team with the superior group-stage campaign chooses between hosting the first leg or the second leg. The away goal rule does not come into effect if the match ends in an aggregate draw. Instead, victory is awarded to the club that placed higher in the standings in the first round.

The rivalry between Atletico Mineiro, America Mineiro, and Cruzeiro is one of the highlights of this competition. Furthermore, Campeonato Mineiro is the tournament in which Brazilian icon Ronaldo made his professional debut.
