About Frauen-Bundesliga
The Frauen-Bundesliga (translated to Women's Federal League in English), is the highest level of league competition for women's football in Germany. It was founded in 1990 by the German Football Association (DFB) based on the same model as the men's Bundesliga.
Until 1997, the Frauen Bundesliga was played with north and south divisions but a merger resulted in a single league featuring 12 teams. Every season consists of two rounds where a total of 22 games are played by each team based on the home and away format.
At the end of the season, the league winners and the first runners-up qualify for the UEFA Champions League while the two bottom-ranked clubs on the league table are relegated to the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga division. Relatively, the two top-placed teams of the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga are promoted to the Frauen-Bundesliga.
