About Regionalliga
The Regionalliga is Germany’s fourth division league. Founded in 1963, it served as the country’s second tier before being demoted to the third tier in 1994, and then the fourth in 2008 due to the introduction of the 3. Liga.
This league consists of five divisions: Regionalliga Nord, Regionalliga Nordost, Regionalliga West, Regionalliga Südwest, and Regionalliga Bayern. The Regionalliga functions on a promotion and relegation system alongside the 3. Liga and the Oberliga, the country’s third and fifth divisions respectively.
