The AFC U-19 Championship, previously known as the AFC Youth Championship, is a biennial Asian cup competition held for the continent’s under-19 national teams. It was founded in 1959 and until 1978, it was held annually before switching to a once-every-two-years schedule. A total of 16 teams participate in this competition, with the contestants being split into four groups of four in a single round-robin format. Similarly, the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final are one-off matches. This tournament acts as Asia’s qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, with the top four countries from the AFC U-19 Championship earning tickets to the under-19 FIFA competition.
