About 2. Divisjon
2. divisjon is Norway’s third-tier league. This competition was founded back in 1963 and was called “3. Divisjon” before rebranding to its current name in 1991. A total of 28 teams compete in this league, with the participants being split into two groups of 14. Each group follows a double round-robin format for a total of 26 rounds. The two group winners are crowned the champions and earn automatic promotion to 1. divisjon (the second division). The runners-up enter a promotion play-off. Here they face off, with the winner booking a showdown against the 14-placed team in 1. divisjon for promotion. The bottom three clubs from each group get relegated to 3. divisjon (the fourth division).
