African football does not get much better than when two of the continent’s soccer giants set up to face each other on the field.

Algeria ma be ranked by FIFA as the best country in Africa as per the latest rankings but Ghana by far boast the better AFCON winning experience with four trophies amassed vs. the Algerians’ single trophy.

News are yet to surface about Ghanaian talisman Asamoah Gyan’s recovery from his malaria sickness but every Black Stars’ fan will be hoping their captain can make it back onto the field in time to face the Desert Warriors. Gyan’s importance to the team has become even more apparent after Ghana were unable to extend their lead against Senegal, conceding a goal and finally getting beaten through a last-gasp, injury-time Moussa Sow winner.

In a game against a proud nation with a strong attacking football philosophy, like the one they have against the Tunisians on Friday, no news would brighten the Ghana camp more than Gyan’s recovery, something that would enable the four-time Champions to try and match the Algerians’ prowess in front of goal.

Algeria are very rightly ranked number one on the FIFA CAF list, but it would be very incorrect to label them a 100% faultless team. There is no better evidence of this than their 3-1 victory against South Africa.

The score line may be very flattering to the eye from an Algerian perspective but the action on the pitch told a very different story. Bafana went ahead and could have extended their lead had they managed to bury their second half penalty. Against a spirited Black Stars side looking to redress their early AFCON 2015 form, the Desert Warriors may not be able to recreate another sensational comeback.

Ghana first eleven: Brimah, Afful, Rahman, Amartey, Mensah, Acquah, A. Ayew, Badu, Atsu, Gyan, J. Ayew

Algeria first eleven: M'Bolhi, Mandi, Bougherra, Medjani, Ghoulam, Lacen, Taider, Bentaleb, Brahimi, Feghouli, Belfodil
