The Black stars won the Group of Death ahead of the Algerians after defeating them in their head-to-head matchup.

Ghana and Algeria made it through in the AFCON 2015's "Group of Death". Needing a win, the Black Stars had to come from behind to earn their place among the final eight teams, while the Algerians had to struggle against Senegal, who were ultimately eliminated from the tournament despite needing only a draw to secure their Quarter-finals spot.

Ghana came from behind as Mandla Masango gave South Africa the lead in the 17th minute with a beautiful goal from outside the box. With their backs to the wall, the Black Stars equalized until the 73rd minute courtesy of John Boye, who managed to drill his shot past South African keeper Nhlanhla Khuzwayo. When the game had entered its final ten minutes, Jordan Ayew scored with a diving header, giving Ghana the win and securing the first spot of Group C. This was Ghana's first win at the Nations Cup against Bafana Bafana after two defeats and a draw.

On the other match of the group, Africa's best ranked team parried with Senegal for most of the match after scoring the first goal before the 15th minute mark thanks to Riyad Mahrez's strike after a quickly-taken free kick. Christian Gourcuff's men then missed several chances to increase their lead, including an amazing shot by Hilal Soudani that was denied by shot-stopper Bouna Condoul. Just when the game was nearing its end, Nabil Bentaleb put to good use a pass by Sofiane Feghouli to make it 2-0, eliminating the Lions of Teranga.
