The Norwegian youngster was included in the club's "A" list, since he could not be registered with the backup team due to his recent signing.

Real Madrid included sixteen-year-old Martin Odegaard in their "A" list to play in the UEFA Champions League. The recently signed Norwegian player was registered with the Number 21 shirt, and would be the youngest player ever to participate in a UEFA Champions League match if he plays against Schalke 04.

The club has stated Odegaard's registration merely intends to get the player acquainted with the duties of a Real Madrid player during an international tournament, but given the opportunity, the Norwegian gem could make his professional debut with Los Blancos. Furthermore, the club clarified that the player was included in the team's "A" list because he was not a part of Los Merengues' youth squads for two years, having no possibility of being included in the backup list.

If the Norwegian midfielder plays with Los Blancos, he will break Celestine Babayaro's record as the youngest player to participate in a UEFA Champions League game. Babayaro made his international debut with Anderlecht against Romanian club Steaua with only 16 years and 87 days of age.
