The last four spots in the Mexican liguilla are up for grabs this weekend with a series of electric games. Here's what you can expect in each one of them.

One of the most interesting weekends in Liga MX is set to take place today, as the final four places to be part of the playoffs will be handed out between Saturday and Sunday.

The eight teams that have made it this far certainly earned their spot in a controversial round created by the league to add more games to the calendar, but judging by what we have seen in past iterations, all we can say is that fans will really have something worth watching in the four clashes we will have these days.

To make matters even more eye-catching, two teams out of the "Big Four" in this league will be forced to play in these Wild Card games. Cruz Azul will have the honor of playing first against León, while Chivas del Guadalajara have been forced to play on Sunday against Puebla, in what will be the final game of this round.

Let us give you a glimpse of how each game is shaping up. You will find each team's ranking after 17 games inside the bracket next to them.

Tigres UANL (5) vs Necaxa (12)

Regular season score: Tigres 0-0 Necaxa

The blue and gold team led by André-Pierre Gignac seems to be the favorite for this clash, but Jaime Lozano's Necaxa showed glimpses of good football during the season that may see fans thinking twice about who they should bet on to make it past this round. It should come as no surprise if Necaxa end up beating their hosts on Saturday evening, as Los Rayos have not lost any of their last four games against Tigres, winning once and drawing the other three. On top of that, Necaxa's boss Jaime Lozano has dominated the tactical duel against Miguel Herrera, beating him three times in their previous five encounters.

Cruz Azul (7) vs León (10)

Regular season score: Cruz Azul 2-1 León

La Máquina bounced back from a woeful start of the season (which included a seven-nil loss to América back in August), and now they have made it to the Wild Card round by winning the last four games under caretaker Raúl Gutiérrez. Their rivals in this round will be León, one of the teams they defeated en route to making it to this stage of the competition, and quite frankly, all bets will be off during this clash.

The away side had some interesting results during this campaign, and considering their record of three wins in their last five games, all we can say is that the winner of this tie will be decided during the final minutes or even via penalties.

Toluca (6) vs Juárez (11)

Regular season score: Juárez 1-1 Toluca

In what seems to be the most uneven game of these matches, Toluca will want to make their home-field advantage count when they host Juárez, one of the leagues up and coming teams and who have made it to their first KO stage in Liga MX history. Los Choriceros only won one of their last four games in the regular season when playing at home, but that win was enough to help them host this match. As for Juárez, the team's results leading to this match included wins against Pachuca and Pumas in the final round of the regular season, giving them the option to nab one of the last tickets to this round while at it.

Puebla (8) vs Guadalajara (9)

Regular season score: Guadalajara 1-0 Puebla

One of the most popular teams in Liga MX will once again have to go through this round to prove their greatness, and to make matters worse, they will have to face a familiar foe in this instance. Guadalajara had a disappointing end of the regular season, which saw them slip down from sixth all the way to ninth place. Now, El Rebaño must prove their worth by beating Puebla, the team with the largest number of draws in all of Liga MX, where they drew ten matches.

This will not be the first Wild Card match between these teams in recent memory. Back in 2021, Puebla claimed a spot in the playoffs by defeating Chivas in an excruciating penalty shootout that ended with an 8-7 score. The game had ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes, and quite frankly, the clash could be decided in the same way on Sunday evening.
