The Gunners are in dire need of three points, having won only once in their last four Premier League games.

Arsenal are in dire need of all three points, and will pull out all the stops to put an end to their three-game winless run when they host Sunderland on Saturday.

The Gunners’ last four games have produced only one win, a form which has seen the north London giants drop from second, level with Man City on points, to fourth, two points below the Citizens and joint leaders Leicester City.

Many factors can be blamed for this latest dip in form: a leaky defense, a goalie conceding sloppy goals, or even Mikel Arteta; however, the club’s bad luck with injuries cannot be overlooked.

Seven senior player look set to miss the weekend clash, possibly nine, with Le Prof having to cope without the likes of Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, and Alexis Sanchez.

Team news

Every team news on games involving the Gunners has been dominated by the London side’s injury crisis. It has not been all gloomy for Arsenal, however, with Wenger recently welcoming back Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the squad.

Theo Walcott and Laurent Koscielny could be fit in time for Saturday’s Sunderland tie, but if not, they will join the likes of Coquelin, Cazorla, Sanchez, Wilshere, Welbeck,  Gibbs, Rosicky on the sidelines.

The Black Cats, though their injury issues are far less, could be without two influential players, with Sebastian Larsson and Jermain Defoe listed as doubtful for the Emirates Stadium match-up.

Head-to-head

Arsene Wenger’s boys have never lost to Sunderland in the English Premier League since its inception in 1992.

In all competitions, Sunderland have not defeated the Gunners at the Emirates in their last 9 meetings, failing to score in five of their last 7 games.

The two sides’ last six clashes have seen Arsenal come out victorious on four occasions, with two ending in nil-nil draws.

Furthermore, the reigning FA Cup champions have only ever lost once to the Black Cats in 23 top-flight encounters.

Players to watch out for

Mesut Ozil is always one to watch out for, with the German playermaker basking in confidence having dished out 11 assists, the most by any player this season, whilst scoring twice so far this campaign.

However, Olivier Giroud should prove tricky for Sam Allardyce’s back four, with the French forward being involved in 5 goals in his last five outings against Sunderland, scoring 3 and assisting 2.
