The team will make its debut in the 2017 MLS season. Martino recently stepped down as Argentina's manager after undergoing a six-month spell without payment.

After turning down job offers from his home country and Mexican clubs, coach Gerardo Martino was finally unveiled as Atlanta United's first-ever manager for the 2017 MLS season.

Despite racking up an impressive record as Argentina's coach, Martino wasn't able to end the team's 23-year drought without any major titles. He led La Albiceleste to two Copa América finals, which they eventually lost against Chile twice.

The team revealed the news to the world by posting a video on their official Twitter feed.

Team president Darren Eales shared his thoughts on what Martino's signing will bring to the franchise during its inaugural season.

"His deep experience and success at both the club and international levels speak for itself, and his vision and approach aligns very well with our club philosophy. We’re confident in his ability to help build a winning culture both on and off the pitch," Eales stated.

Aside from his experience with La Albiceleste, Martino led Paraguay to the Quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup and to the 2011 Copa América Final. His tactical abilities won him the coaching spot with Barcelona left by Tito Vilanova in 2013, but he wasn't able to lead Los Blaugranas to the title, getting him sacked after only one season.
