CIES has released a new interesting study in which they compile a list of the most valuable squads in Europe’s top-five leagues. A team’s value is calculated by looking at the estimated transfer value of their players, a criterion which has helped the Premier League dominate this list.
In first place is none other than the English top-flight leader, Man City. According to CIES’ algorithm, the value of Guardiola’s side is estimated at roughly $1.4bn - $1.38bn to be precise.
Kevin de Bruyne is their highest-valued player, with a worth of $167m. He isn’t the only player to thank for their top spot; however, as the likes of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, and Gabriel Jesus are all worth more than $115m.
In second is Tottenham. This comes as little surprise, as the North London outfit has the highest valued player in England in their rank: Harry Kane ($215m). Pochettino’s crew, who boasts a youthful and talented squad, has an estimated value of $1.36bn - $1.357bn to be precise.
Barcelona has the highest-valued squad in La Liga, coming in at third on this list. The Blaugrana’s value is estimated at $1.3bn, with Luis Suarez ($155m) – not Lionel Messi – being their player with the most financial worth.
Only seven teams passed the $1bn mark. Five of them are from the Premier League – Chelsea ($1.2bn) is in fourth, Man United ($1.06bn) is in fifth, and Liverpool ($1.04bn) is in seventh. Real Madrid ($1.044bn), coming in sixth, joins Barcelona as the only two non-English clubs to surpass $1bn.
Neymar’s PSG could only grab the eighth spot with an estimated value of $999.6m. Defending Serie A champion Juventus is the highest-ranked Italian team with a worth of $859.7m. Check out the top 10 below.
- Man City: $1.38
