The hype and surge in popularity surrounding women’s football since the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup has trickled down to the domestic leagues, with the FA Women’s Soccer League being the latest competition to shatter attendance records.
Sunday saw Matchday 6 of the WSL take place, breaking in great numbers. They announced those figures on their official Instagram page, revealing that a record 77,000 fans tuned in to watch the action in both the top-tier league and the Women’s Championship on a weekend which just happened to be the Women’s Football Weekend.
Tottenham’s clash with Arsenal, in particular, made history. 38,262 fans, the largest Women’s Super League crowd for a single game, attended the North London Derby to watch the Gunners win 2-0.
The Merseyside Derby brought in the second-largest attendance this weekend with 23,500 taking to Anfield to watch Liverpool lose 1-0 to Everton. In total, the WSL alone racked up 74,247 match goers on Matchday 6, a landmarked which was widely celebrated.

This comes just over a week after the England women’s national team faced off against Germany at a sold-out Wembley Stadium, setting a record crowd of 77,768.
