This is the first list for 2020, naming the players with the highest transfer values in Europe's top-five leagues.

A new decade has dawned but the lovely folks at CIES have continued with their interesting and insightful studies. The first of 2020 takes a look at the most valuable players in Europe’s top-five leagues.

Europe is in abundance of players who would cost an arm and a leg to sign. Furthermore, this list reveals the players with the highest transfer value in each position.

This list is dominated by Liverpool players, with Alisson (€87M/$97M), Virgil Van Dijk (€93M/$104M), and Trent Alexander-Arnold (€110M/$122.8M) taking the crowns for most-valuable goalkeeper, defender, and full-back.

The number one midfielder on this list is James Maddison of Leicester at €112M/$125M while the title of the most valuable attacker goes to none other than Kylian Mbappe at €265M/$296M.

This comes as little surprise. In fact, the PSG superstar is ranked as the most valuable player in Europe’s top-five leagues overall, followed by Raheem Sterling (€223.7M/$249.7M) and Mohamed Salah (€175.1M/$195.4M). Jadon Sancho and Sadio Mane complete the top five.

Each league boast at least two players with a value of €100M/$112M and above. The Premier League boast the most number of players who meet this criteria, with 11 of the top 20 being from the English top-flight.
