Major League Soccer play continues July 17 with D.C. United taking on the New England Revolution along with a pair of Group D clashes

The Black-and-Red will look to beat the Revs to overtake them in Group C, while the Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City fight for survival as Group D approaches its climax. Group C: D.C. United vs New England Revolution – 8 p.m. ET

D.C. United took part in what was an eventful first match of the tournament against Toronto FC.

Conceding two goals and going down a man before halftime was not a part of Ben Olsen's game plan. But American coach and his team responded well in the second half keeping The Reds from extending their lead.

However, the turning point of this match came at the 83rd minute, when 35-year-old Federico Higuain scored his first goal in black and red after just three minutes on the pitch. Take a bow.

A well-executed set-piece in the first minute of added time saw center back Frederic Brilliant head the ball into the back of the net for a late equalizer.

On the other hand, the New England Revolution was ecstatic to pick up three points on their first game of the tournament against Thierry Henry's Montreal Impact.

Despite New England dominating the first half, it was not until the 55th minute that they took the lead. Gustavo Bou's terrific solo effort awarded The Reds the goal they deserved.

Bruce Arena's offensive approach paid off with the help of his defense by keeping a clean sheet.

The Revs come into Friday's matchup as favorites, but Red-and-Black will hope that their second-half form against Toronto carries on to the game on Friday.

Group D: Sporting Kansas City vs Colorado Rapids – 8 p.m. ET

Colorado and Kansas City, the two matchday 1 Group D losers, will fight in a must-win game on Friday night. Both teams sit at the bottom of the table without points, while Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United sit a-top of the group with three points each.

Sporting had a good showing in the first half of their meeting with Minnesota on matchday one. With a good chunck of possession and more chances, Kansas City found the back of the net via Khiry Shelton before the half.

But like Toronto in the game against D.C. United, SKC lost control of the match in the dying minutes of the game. Wizard's goalkeeper Tim Medina was sent-off for a poor challenge outside his 18-yard box, and then came The Loons looking to make Kansas City pay for their mistakes.

Shelton, the scorer of the first goal for SKC, conceded an own goal from a deep Minnesota free-kick after one minute of added time. And on the last minute of the game, 90+7, The Loons scored a second and winner to finish the heist.

Meanwhile, Colorado Rapids were left full of vengeance after falling to rivals Real Salt Lake on their opening game. The meeting was as physical and matched as it usually is. Nonetheless, it was the Claret-and-Cobalt that fell to RSL 2-0.

To make matters worse, RSL conceded a second goal while the commentators interviewed coach Robin Fraser. It is safe to say that he wasn't too happy about that.

Group D: Real Salt Lake vs Minnesota United – 10:30 p.m. ET

A win for either Real Salt Lake or Minnesota United will be the ticket to ride to the next phase of the MLS is Back Tournament. Therefore, expect an all-out battle between these two in-form teams.

As previously stated, Minnesota surprised Sporting Kansas City with two added-time goals to secure the win. The Loons were able to rise above SKC by working as a unit and making the best out of their opportunities. Kevin Molino was the man who ended up separating these two sides.

Real Salt Lake are considered favorites ahead of Friday's late-night match. Having won 2-0 against rivals, Colorado, RSL is on a high-horse ready to go up against Minnesota.

Keep an eye out for the Easter European duo of Croatian Damir Kreilach and Slovakian Albert Rusnak. The attacking midfielders scored a goal each and looked to be in charge of the attack.
