The Lyon sensation is highly sought-after by Arsenal but unfortunately, Los Blancos have now reportedly thrown their hat into the ring.

Houssem Aouar is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Ligue 1 and, as a result, has been scouted by several top European clubs. The team linked heaviest with the Lyon sensation has been Arsenal as it is no secret that the Gunners are keen on recruiting them. However, according to the latest reports, one of the continent’s biggest club have thrown their hat in the ring late on in the summer transfer window.

They are none other than Real Madrid. According to L’Equipe, Arsenal’s failure to match Lyon’s valuation for the midfield maestro has allowed Los Blancos to enter the race and hijack the move. The north London giants have held several talks with Aouar’s Ligue 1 employers while Zidane has just initiated contact but it should be noted that the player himself reportedly favors a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

A number of scenarios have been discussed with Aouar’s camp, one being a move next summer as the Spanish giants cannot afford his price tag this summer and will need to move on a few midfielders to make way for his arrival. Additionally, the Spanish champions have discussed the possibility of a loan move with an obligation to buy in 2021 but it remains to be seen whether Lyon would agree to that as the Friday deadline set by president Aulas for Aouar’s suitors has passed.

This could also be a screen smoke, a rumor leaked by Lyon in a bid to get Arsenal to loosen their purse strings. With the October 5 summer transfer window deadline day fast approaching, both parties are keen on reaching a financially beneficial agreement in regards with the midfielder.
