A baptism of fire ensued at Old Trafford following Jose Mourinho's return.

Manchester United were dealt a massive humiliation against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's classic encounter at Old Trafford. The Red Devils fell to a 6-1 defeat against Jose Mourinho's men to record their joint-worst defeat since the inception of the Premier League.

Solskjaer's men got off to a flying start after Bruno Fernandes scored a second successive penalty inside the first 180 seconds. However, things began to go south for the Old Trafford outfit from that point onwards as they conceded two quick goals as a result of poor defending. Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min were the two players responsible for the visitors' lead.

Shortly after, Anthony Martial saw red for slapping Eric Lamela, forcing United to finish the proceeding with just 10 men. The onslaught was soon ushered in, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min getting a double apiece and Serge Aurier adding the gloss to the big win.

In retrospect, it was the first time in five years that Manchester United had conceded two goals inside seven minutes. The last of such instances happened in the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in October 2015. It was also the first time three goals had been scored in that time in a Premier League match since Manchester City vs Burnley in April 2010.
