The French star passed off a huge opportunity to get on the scoresheet in Wednesday's Nations League encounter.

French star Kylian Mbappe produced what was arguably one of the top misses of this month's international break in Wednesday's encounter with Croatia. The 20-year-old forward was set-up for what should have been an easy tap-in but squandered the opportunity to put his side two goals ahead.

France started on a good note and had their resilience rewarded in no time with Antoine Griezmann scoring his 33rd-goal for his country. The Barcelona superstar, as a result, went within a goal short of tying with David Trezeguet as Les Bleus' joint-fourth top scorer.

With the former Atletico Madrid man cropping up in the history books with his goal, his compatriot Kylian Mbappe failed to add to his personal haul to potentially make a claim for the feat in the near future. The Paris Saint-Germain attacker was beautifully set-up in Croatia's penalty area by Anthony Martial but ended up skewing his effort wide.

Needless to say, Mbappe's moment of vindication came in the second half as he managed to score the goal which will ultimately be the winner after Nikola Vlasic had gotten a 64th-minute equalizer. The night's victory was still not enough to send France to the top of Group 3 of the Nations League League A following Portugal's 3-0 win over Sweden. The two teams end the international break with 10 points apiece with the current title holders edging the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners a superior goal difference.
