2022 FIFA World Cup TV & Online Broadcast Guide for the USMNT in the USA

October 27, 2022 By Michelle Bonsu
After missing out on the 2018 edition, the USMNT will be seeking to redeem themselves at this year's event in Qatar.

Watch the World Cup in the USA - USMNT's schedule, TV and Streaming

Fans in the USA will be able to cheer on the Stars and Stripes using a variety of options, both online and on TV. FOX Sports will cover all 64 games of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including the three group stage matches for the USMNT (and potentially more should they qualify for the round of 16 and beyond). Through its family of channels, including FOX Network, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, FOX Sports App,, and Tubi. Tubi, which is FOX's OTT (over-the-top) streaming service, will provide access to all 64 games on-demand for free and matches will be available as replays.

Additional options include OTT providers fuboTV and SlingTV, which have carriage deals with both FOX and Telemundo. Additional Spanish-language coverage will be provided by NBC Sports via Telemundo Deportes, UNIVERSO, and UNIVERSO NOW, while Peacock will offer 12 free matches, with the other 52 being available for premium subscribers.

Watch World Cup on FOX Sports:

FOX Sports holds English-language rights to all 64 matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in USA. The network is set to produce extensive pre- and post-match programming from its set in Doha, Qatar. Every match is to be streamed live in 4K on the FOX Sports app, which is available on mobile devices, smart TVs and games consoles. Flagship channel FOX has over half of the tournament's matches slotted as live broadcasts in its schedule, including the opening game, as well as USA's group stage fixtures against Wales, England and Iran. The remainder of the matches are taken up by FS1. FOX Sports' World Cup 2022 broadcast team for play-by-play announcements, analysis and reports includes U.S. Soccer icons such as Alexi Lalas, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Aly Wagner, Carli Lloyd, Cobi Jones, Maurice Edu and Stu Holden.

FOX-owned OTT streaming service Tubi has secured U.S. digital rights to the 2022 World Cup. Tubi has launched a new channel dedicated to the tournament, called the FIFA World Cup FAST Channel, with the aim of providing World Cup match highlights from Qatar, analysis, and content from past World Cup editions. All 64 matches from the 2022 World Cup are set to be offered for free on-demand and released as replays.

Watch World Cup with Spanish commentary.

Telemundo Deportes holds exclusive Spanish-language U.S. multi-platform rights to the 2022 World Cup. The network has prepared live coverage for all 64 matches, including all four games on Thanksgiving Day. While the majority of the live World Cup 2022 matches are to be aired on flagship channel Telemundo, sister network Universo is expected to join in on the live broadcasts on Matchday 3 of the group stage, with each network televising 8 matches in that period. All the games on Telemundo are expected to receive in-depth pre- and post-match programming, analysis, followed by extensive highlights. For users of Telemundo's app, the latter naturally inherits sports coverage from the linear television networks. NBC-owned OTT streaming service Peacock has been slated to show all 64 World Cup matches live through a dedicated 24/7 channel that also comes with exclusive content for the platform's Spanish-speaking audience.

NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock has scheduled the first 12 World Cup 2022 matches on its platform for free. Peacock subscribers may watch these 12 matches for free in USA, whereas the other 52 matches of the tournament may only be accessed by Peacock Premium subscribers. All of Peacock's World Cup 2022 matches are covered in Spanish language, as they are aired through Telemundo Deportes. The 24/7 virtual World Cup-dedicated channel on Peacock is set to include several hours of original programming daily, including live games, previews, reports, stats, analysis and highlights.

World Cup on Fubo and Sling.

OTT subscription streaming services fuboTV and Sling benefit from partnership deals with 2022 World Cup rights holders FOX and Telemundo in USA. This makes the tournament—and all its surrounding coverage on these networks—available on its platform for its paying members.

World Cup Highlights on Twitter

Twitter has acquired the rights to the FIFA 2022 World Cup in a partnership agreement with Fox Sports, who extended their previous deal. The social media platform will again provide game highlights and other original content via Fox Sports' accounts.

About the USMNT in FIFA World Cup history

To date, the USMNT has qualified for 11 World Cups, including the 2022 edition to be staged this year in Qatar. The Yanks' best run has been making it to the semi-finals at the inaugural tournament in 1930, but between 1954 and 1986, they failed to qualify. In 2002, the team made an impressive run to the quarter-finals, where they lost in unfortunate fashion to Germany, and in their last appearance, the Stars and Stripes were beaten by Belgium in the round of 16. After missing out on the 2018 edition in embarrassing fashion, the USMNT will be eager to put in a good shift this time around.

Who is the USMNT's coach for the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

49-year-old Gregg Berhalter has been in charge of the USMNT since December 2, 2018, and will be making his first ever appearance as a senior manager at the World Cup. Prior to taking his current position, he managed a handful of club sides both in the USA as well as in Sweden, and will be hoping to help guide the team to success this year in Qatar.

After retiring, his first position was with Swedish side Hammarby IF, where he was in charge from 2011 to 2013 before returning to the USA to manage MLS side Columbus Crew for five years, from 2013 to 2018 before being tapped to take over the USMNT in December of that year.

Berhalter will be hoping to help the USMNT have a strong run at this year's World Cup

To date, Berhlalter has successfully clinched the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup as well as leading the USMNT to victory during the 2019/2020 CONCACAF Nations League, and will definitely hope to use that to spearhead his team's success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

USMNT's expectations ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The USMNT secured their spot at their 11th FIFA World Cup after finishing third in CONCACAF, with a record of W7 D4 L3. However, despite a solid run in qualifiers, Berhalter's side have not impressed in their two most recent matches prior to the upcoming World Cup. The Stars and Stripes first lost 2-0 to Japan before being held to a surprise draw by Saudi Arabia.

Given that they are in a group alongside England and Wales, the USMNT could face a tough test to qualify for the knockout rounds. England, who made a run to the 2020 EURO finals, certainly are no slouches, while Wales, if Gareth Bale and other stars are on top of their game, could also present a tricky opponent. As such, the Stars and Stripes could find it difficult to progress if they do not get things right in their group stage opener against Wales.

USMNT: Key players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Under Berhalter's tenure, several young players have begun to make their marks, and many will be looking to have a huge impact at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Although Christian Pulisic has struggled for consistent game time at Chelsea, the former Dortmund man is still expected to play a vital role for the Stars and Stripes in Qatar - provided that he can stay fit and avoid injury.

Meanwhile, Gio Reyna, who plays at Pulisic's ex-club Dortmund, will be another young, aspiring player hoping to have a big splash, along with Juventus midfield stalwart Weston McKennie, Milan defender Sergino Dest (who made history as the first American player to feature in El Clasico during his time with Barcelona), and Leeds United's Tyler Adams.

Indeed, in looking at the USMNT's roster ahead of their last two friendlies, Berhalter has fielded a very young squad, with only two players being older than 30, while 15 of them were 25 years and younger.

USMNT's 2022 FIFA World Cup schedule

The USMNT have been placed in a very interesting quartet, with England, Wales, and Iran comprising Group B. Arguably, the most interesting clash will feature the USMNT and England, which will take place on November 25th. The Stars and Stripes will begin their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Wales on November 21st, before concluding proceedings with a tie against Iran on November 29th.
