If UEFA looks a bit deeper into Barcelona's financial statements, then the Blaugrana side might find it a little hard to hire new footballers as things stand.
A report by El Partidazo de COPE leaked documents regarding Barcelona's recent transfers, and judging by the numbers, Los Culés will really have to get their financial house in order before they try to add players to their roster.
The documents revealed by the Spanish media outlet state that Los Culés owe an added number of over €190M (around $230M) for player transfers. While some of those footballers are no longer around, players such as Philippe Coutinho, Frenkie de Jong or Miralem Pjanic are still part of the team, and the Spanish side has failed to pay a large portion of the transfer fee agreed with their former teams.
El Partidazo de COPE's sources have revealed that Barcelona still owes Ajax over $58M (€48M) for Frenkie de Jong's transfer, over $48M (€40M) for Philippe Coutinho's deal with Liverpool, and over $63M (€52M) to Juventus for Miralem Pjanic's move to Camp Nou. In case you might be interested, Barcelona still owes Brazilian side Gremio over $16M (€13.5M) for Arthur Melo's deal, who as you might recall was also involved in the deal that saw Pjanic arriving to the Spanish side.
As UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules stand, teams must provide a financial statement to keep making transfers without any complications, and while there is a debt margin for all teams according to that statement, Barcelona's financial crisis could extend far beyond this season and even carry one more transfer ban for the Blaugrana side.
