The Black Satellites defeated the Hippos via a 2-0 scoreline to clinch their first title in 12 years.

The men's U-20 team of Ghana, the Black Satellite, have emerged as champions of the 2021 Total Africa U-20 Cup of Nations following Saturday night's win over their Ugandan counterparts. The former defeated the Hippos of Uganda by two goals to nil inside the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The Ghanaians dominated play right from start to finish and were duly rewarded for their brilliant display in no time. Striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh opened the scoring for the Black Satellites in the 21st-minute before doubling his side's advantage with his second of the night in the 51st minute. Although Uganda pressed to get something out of the game, they were kept at bay and could only settle for a silver medal at the end of proceedings as Ghana strolled to its fourth continental title on their independence day.

While the end proved to be rewarding for the Black Satellite, the ride was far from being a smooth one for them throughout the competition. Despite having had a decent start to this year's tournament, they hit a snag a point, and had to settle for third-place in Group C after accumulating just four points from three outings. However, Abdul Karim Zito's boys made the best of the quarter-final qualification they secured on merit, beating Cameroon 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw with the West African counterparts after extra-time.

A semi-final date with Morocco was then secured and, once again, the Black Satellites held their nerve and scaled over that test. The young Ghanaian team booked their country's first final in eight years by defeating Gambia in the penultimate encounter, setting up a date with Uganda's U-20 side in the process. The former had navigated their course through the tournament by finishing in second position behind Cameroon in Group A, before beating Burkina Faso and Tunisia in the quarter-final and semi final respectively.
