The No. 22 U.S. men’s national team will face No. 16-ranked Switzerland on Sunday, May 30, at Kybunpark in St. Gallen. The fixture will serve as the USA’s last preparation match before the Concacaf Nations League final four.

ESPN and Univision networks will offer live coverage of the game for soccer fans in the United States. However, specific details like channels have not been announced yet.

The match will be head coach Gregg Berhalter's sixth meeting against a top 20 opponent since becoming head coach in 2019. The U.S. drew against Conmebol sides Chile and Uruguay and lost to Mexico 1-0 in friendlies during 2019. Also in 2019, the USA fell to Mexico 3-0 in the Gold Cup final. The fifth match against a top 20 opponent ended in a goalless draw against No. 18 Wales in November 2020.

"One of our priorities is to challenge ourselves against top level competition, so we're thrilled to have the opportunity to play a quality European opponent," USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said. "Both teams will be gearing up for big tournaments, so it will be great preparation for our group as we head into the summer."

The USMNT and Switzerland have met twice in the last 25 years. Their last clash dates back to March 31, 2015, when a Brek Shea free kick helped the Americans secure a 1-1 draw against the Swiss in Zurich.

Another free kick led to a one-all draw in their previous meeting, this time at Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Eric Wynalda was the man who helped the USA earn its first point in a World Cup since 1950.

Overall, the U.S. is 1-3-4 all-time against Switzerland and unbeaten in its last four.

The Swiss are gearing up for the European Championship where they will take on Italy, Turkey and Wales in Group A.

The fixture will serve as a preliminary match for the USA to three significant competitions in 2021, starting with the Concacaf Nations League final four in June. There the USMNT is set to take on Honduras in a semifinal, while Costa Rica and Mexico clash in the other semifinal. The winners of each semifinal will face off in the inaugural Nations League title game.

The USA will compete in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup in search of its seventh confederation championship title the following month. The USMNT is a part of Group A with Canada, Matinique and a third team to be determined after the qualifying tournament.

Lastly and most importantly, the USA will begin its 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying in September 2021.
