The Austrian defender has chosen his next destination once his Bayern contract ends this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has already agreed to join a team once his contract ends this summer. Surprise, surprise, the highly-rated Austrian will be joining none other than Real Madrid.

While nothing is official, an announcement is expected in "the coming weeks". The 28-year-old has long been linked with a transfer to Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos being on the lookout for a defender, a move for the Bundesliga ace was a no brainer.

Alaba had long been tipped to leave the Allianz Arena once the season ends but only confirmed his departure in February. The Bavarians reportedly made several attempts to extend his contract but were all rejected, thus bringing an end to his trophy-laden 13-year spell in Munich.

A renowned fullback turned reliable center-back, Alaba helped the German giants to tremendous success during his time at the Allianz Arena. The Austrian defender has lifted nine Bundesliga titles, and given that Hansi Flick's side are 10 points ahead in the table, David will soon add trophy no.10 to his list of achievements.

The 28-year-old also guided Bayern to two UEFA Champions League titles, the most recent coming last season. The German giants beat PSG in the 2019/20 UCL final and followed up that achievement with German Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup success to complete a historical sextuple.

Alaba is one of two long-serving defenders set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, with Jerome Boateng also confirming his upcoming departure – RB Leipzig's highly-rated Dayot Upamecano has since been signed to bolster the back-four. Furthermore, Flick recently announced his desire to step down once the season ends, meaning die Roten will have a few new faces come the 2021/20 campaign.
