La Albiceleste enter this competition as one of the favorites for the title. Will Messi lift the FIFA World Cup trophy in what will be his final tournament? Here's how you can follow Argentina's Qatar 2022 matches.

Watch Argentina in the World Cup - TV and Streaming rights in Argentina

Pay television broadcaster TyC Sports has acquired Argentinian rights to the 2022 World Cup. The sports-dedicated network has secured all the tournament's matches in high definition. The action is to be carried out live on television, as well as on TyC Sports' digital platforms and mobile applications. Whilst La Albiceleste are expected to receive special attention, the rest of the teams at Qatar 2022 are set to receive extensive coverage on TyC Sports, with pre and post-match programs, as well as match highlights and replays.

TV Pública (TVP) has obtained Argentine free-to-air rights to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The public-service broadcaster's package includes 32 World Cup matches. In preparation for the tournament, TVP has also invested in insightful programs such as Rumbo a Qatar and Mundialistas.

State media company Radio y Televisión Argentina has confirmed that 2022 FIFA World Cup matches that are not available on free-to-air television in Argentina will be carried out on its radio stations. RTA secured World Cup 2022 nationwide radio rights for live Spanish-language commentary.

About Argentina in World Cup history

The South American powerhouses will be making their eighteenth appearance in this tournament come November as Argentina look to end their long wait for a third FIFA World Cup title. La Albiceleste have lifted this trophy twice before, first in 1978 when the tournament was held on home soil, while the second victory was clinched in 1986 by a Diego Maradona-led side. The late Argentine icon delivered one of the most memorable individual campaigns, scoring twice in the quarter-finals against England before netting another brace in the semi-finals against Belgium. Since then, the CONMEBOL heavyweights have reached the FIFA World Cup final twice but lost on both occasions, once in Italy 1990 and the other in Brazil 2014.

Who is Argentina's coach for the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

Lionel Scaloni is the man in charge of Argentina heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup. After starting his career as an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli at Sevilla, the 44-year-old shortly made the move to La Albiceleste after his superior was appointed the national team boss. However, after their horrendous 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign, the two-time champions parted ways with Sampaoli and named Scaloni as their interim boss. A few months later, Lionel was given the permanent job and he ended the nation's 28-year trophy drought, guiding his country to the 2021 Copa America title. A year later, he followed that up by beating Italy in the Finalissima, a clash between the champions of Europe and South America.

Argentina's expectations ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The South Americans head to Qatar as one of the favorites for the title. Hence, the goal is straightforward: Argentina must end their 36-year wait for a FIFA World Cup trophy in what will be Lionel Messi's final tournament. While La Pulga does not see his team as the favorites, Scaloni's men are currently on a spectacular 33-game unbeaten run and impressed in the 2021 Copa America as well as the Finalissima showdown against Italy. Then there are the millions of fans praying to see Argentina's seven-time Ballon d'Or winner lift the most prestigious title in the beautiful game.

Speaking of Leo…

Argentina: Key players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

All eyes will be on Lionel Messi this tournament as the PSG superstar looks to captain his country to their first FIFA World Cup title since the days of Diego Maradona. The 35-year-old recently admitted that this will be his final tournament, and after enduring heartbreak in the 2014 final versus Germany, victory in Qatar would be a brilliant end to his record-breaking career with the national team.

However, despite his undeniable talent, Messi's age means he cannot carry the goalscoring burden on his own, and here is where Lautaro Martinez comes into play. The Inter Milan ace lead the line for La Albiceleste in the 2021 Copa America, netting in the semi-final against Colombia, whilst also getting on the scoresheet in the 3-0 thrashing of Italy in Finalissima. Scaloni will need his no.9 to assist Leo in Qatar 2022.

Additionally, Messi isn't the only Argentine star waving goodbye this year. Angel di Maria revealed that he will retire after this FIFA World Cup, and after missing out on the 2014 final through injury, winning this tournament would be the perfect redemption for such an underrated player.

Two players who deserve special mention are Emiliano Martínez and Cristian Romero, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper and Tottenham center-back establishing themselves as key members of the national team set-up. If Argentina are to go all the way, then they will need a rock-solid defense and an unbeatable shot-stopper in goal.
