The center back was sent off despite being on the bench after he argued with referee Gil Manzano over Robert Lewandowski's red card.

The game between Osasuna and Barcelona will go down in history as Gerard Piqué's final match, but it will also be remembered for the way the footballer said goodbye to the beautiful game.

The center back was an unused substitute by Xavi Hernández during Los Culés' come-from-behind win against Los Rojillos. What some may not know is that Piqué was sent off durng the break for having some "choice" words with referee Gil Manzano.

According to the ref's report, Piqué did not hold back when speaking to him about a red card against Robert Lewandowski. Despite Manzano's attempts to ignore Piqué, the situation escalated to the point where the player had to be sent off.

Piqué's complaints began by asking an explanation about a corner kick, which the ref did not take well.

"Have you seen the kind of corner you awarded them? You are the ref who has fu**ed us up the most by far," Piqué told the ref, according to Manzano.

Then, the footballer asked how on earth Manzano had decided to send Lewandowski off.

"Did you realize the player you sent off? Your refereeing is embarrassing," Piqué added, prompting Manzano's reaction to send him off.

According to the ref's recollection of the events, Piqué lost the plot after seeing the red card and escalated his attacks against Manzano.

"Once I told the club delegate about Piqué's sending off, the player continued with the same rude statements, forcing staff members to pull him into the team's dressing room. While being taken away, the player yelled the following words: 'It's a fu**ing disgrace, I'd take a sh*t on that b*tch you call your mother'," the report states.

With this red card, Piqué joined Hristo Stoichkov as the only players in Barcelona history to pick up eleven red cards. It was, without a doubt, a tumultuous end to a tumultuous career for the center back.
