The Polish ace is one of the big names to keep an eye on during the group stage of the competition, where the white and red have been paired up with Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

Poland is seen by many as one of the tournament's dark horses in the FIFA World Cup, especially with Robert Lewandowski as part of the team. Nevertheless, their poor performances in international competitions urge fans to be wary about their hopes.

Speaking in a press conference, the talented Barcelona striker spoke about the main things to keep under consideration against Mexico, who will be their rivals during the first match. According to Lewandowski, beating El Tri will be key to accomplish their goal to make it past the Group Stage for the first time since 1986.

"We are aware about Mexico's potential, we will fight because we want to win. We know that Mexico's players are skilled, their wingers are pretty good, and we feel ready to stop their attacks," Lewandowski stated.

The striker, who is still looking to score his first FIFA World Cup goal, mentioned the kind of role he could play for Poland even if he does not get to add his name to the scoresheet.

"We are conscious that their defenders will try to stop me and I will be heavily guarded, but that could be a strength for us since my teammates could take advantage of all the space their defenders will leave to guard me. We have been preparing for that and we are ready for the challenge," Lewandowski added.

The Polish team's all-time top scorer admitted that it will not be an easy game for Poland due to Mexico's drive. Nevertheless, he pointed out how relevant it could be for Poland's campaign to beat Mexico in this clash.

"Mexico will make it a complicated game. The first match will be key for us, but if we are able to win it, we will get a major boost in confidence," Lewandowski concluded.

Poland will be looking to make it past the group stage for the first time since their 2016 UEFA Euro campaign, where they made it to the Quarter-finals. Since then, the White Eagles have lost four games, with only one win and one draw to complete their tally.
