The USA captain shielded his team's coach from criticism following Monday night's draw.

Newly appointed US Men's Soccer Team captain Tyler Adams has jumped to the defense of headcoach Gregg Berhalter following Monday's draw with Wales. The 49-year-old has been subjected to criticism by fans after giving up their lead and sharing spoils in their opening game of the campaign.

A brilliant strike by Timothy Weah handed the Stars and Stripes their first World Cup goal in eight years before Gareth Bale canceled out their lead with a late penalty in the Group B affair. Following the game's conclusion, some fans of the USMNT expressed disappointment in the way Gregg Berhalter managed the game, particularly for deciding against bringing on Gio Reyna when pressure started mounting.

However, Adams has insisted that the USMNT head coach cannot be blamed for the final outcome of the game. In his post-match remarks, the midfielder said: "Greg [Berhalter] came up with a very good match plan on how to exploit the spaces."

"We had some good runs in behind.' 'In the second half we changed. We had to adapt to what they were doing.

"Obviously, they bring on a different player and change their game plan to limit our [runs] in behind a bit more.

"And yea we failed to execute a little bit, but we were still pretty dominant."

With the result, the USMNT now finds itself sitting in third position with a point ahead of their second group encounter. The Stars and Stripes will hope to return to winning ways in a tough test against England on November 25 inside Al Bayt Stadium.
