The Paris Saint-Germain star failed to convert a glorious chance in the first half of Tuesday's match-up.

Kylian Mbappé produced what many have classified as the 'miss of the tournament' yet in France's 2022 FIFA World Cup opener against Australia. The 23-year-old failed to put the ball in the net from just four yards as Les Bleus fought to get back into the night's affair.

France were put on the back foot just nine minutes into the encounter after Craig Goodwin hinted a potential upset by breaking the deadlock. The current World Cup holders then had their night momentarily marred with Lucas Hernandez picking up an injury in his attempt to defend the cross that led to the opening goal. The Bayern Munich defender was subsequently replaced by his brother, Theo Hernandez.

In the 27th minute, the AC Milan full-back delivered a perfect ball to Adrien Rabiot to get France's equalizer before Olivier Giroud completed the comeback five minutes later. Moments later, Kylian Mbappe had a glorious opportunity to increase the lead to two but fluffed his lines and blasted the ball over the bar from just four yards out. Watch:
