The 22-year-old, who plays his club football for Ajax, is now attempting to backpedal after comments he made in an interview with a British publication.

It's often said that one should be careful what one says, especially considering that the Internet is forever.

Well, Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus is finding out that the hard way, as he finds himself in an uncomfortable situation following remarks he made about Brazilian superstar Neymar earlier this year.

The 22-year-old, who plays his club football with Ajax, had sat down with The Guardian to discuss, among things, his career path to date and his ambitions as part of the Black Stars squad that will be taking part at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ghana had been beaten 2-0 by Brazil during an international friendly, and Kudus and Neymar had been involved in a bit of tense situations during the tie.

However, it's one quote in particular that has generated quite a bit of buzz, with Kudus remarking that "[Neymar] is not better than me. He's just a higher profile player, that's all. He was defending his country and I was defending mine. I wasn't about to let him push me around. What makes him better, for now, is that he has achieved a lot. I'll get there soon."

Either because he was feeling peeved after seeing his side lose or maybe because of his negative interactions with the PSG star, Kudus felt the need to air his beliefs regarding the 30-year-old Brazilian superstar.

Interestingly, ahead of Ghana's World Cup opening game, he has now scrambled to walk back his comments, claiming that they were "fake news" via his official Twitter feed:

Unfortunately for the ambitious youngster, it might have been best just to stay quiet and let his football do the talking.

Ghana will kick off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a tie against Portugal that will pit them against Cristiano Ronaldo and co. for the second time since the 2014 edition of this competition, while Brazil will also be involved in a rematch of their own against Serbia, the team they beat 2-0 four years ago at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
