Australia and Denmark will feature in a grandstand finale in Group D as they set their eyes on securing a R16 spot.

It's all or nothing for both Australia and Denmark when come go head to head in their final Group D encounter on Wednesday. With group rivals France already booking a spot to the Round of 16, one of the two sides will be heading home if the result does not favor them.

Australia have punched above their weight since arriving in Qatar and will be eager to keep the run going when they take to the field on Wednesday afternoon. Despite beginning the campaign with a 4-1 defeat to France in their opening group game, the Socceroos picked themselves up and nicked a shock 1-0 victory over Tunisia in their second group game.

Currently second on the table with three points, a draw in their upcoming meeting with Denmark at the Al Janoub Stadium should be enough to take them over the finish line and set them up for their first since 2006.

Their form against European nations at the World Cup, however, gives room for concern. Australia has registered eight defeats in their 11 meetings with European sides from the continent. At the last edition of the World Cup in Russia, they did manage a 1-1 draw with Denmark and will take inspiration from that performance heading into Wednesday's affair.

For the Danes, their performance in Qatar makes it difficult for one to believe that they were capable of winning their opening nine qualifiers with eight clean sheets. Kasper Hjulmand's side shared spoils with Tunisia in a 0-0 draw in their opening game before falling to a disappointing 2-1 defeat againsts holders France.

They approach the clash with Australia on the back of a five-game winless run at the World Cup and must end the streak in order to have a shot at qualifying to the next round. Having managed four knockout stage appearances in their last five appearances at the competition, failure to progress will be gross underachievement on the part of Hjulmand's men who impressed and won the hearts of many at the European Championship last year.
