The ex-Black Star player has left his post following Friday's capitulation.

Head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana Otto Addo has resigned from his post following Friday's elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The 47-year-old announced his decision after his side suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Giorgian de Arrascaeta scored twice in the first half for Uruguay after Andre Ayew had already missed a penalty for Ghana. The Black Stars could not fight their way back in the second half and were eventually knocked out of the competition alongside the night's opponents who could not fashion a third goal to displace Korea Republic. The Asian nation stunned Portugal in a 2-1 victory to secure a runners-up finish while La Celeste and the Ghanaians settled for third and fourth place on the table respectively.

Prior to the start of the World Cup, Otto Addo hinted that he will lay down his tools for the Black Stars after the competition is concluded regardless of the side finishes. The former Black Stars defender works as a talent development coach and a scout at Borussia Dortmund and he is now keen on returning to Bundesliga club with Ghana's World Cup spell officially over.

"Me & my family are happy in Germany. I said I would step down after the World Cup even if we're world champions after the tournament. I've resigned from my role as Ghana coach," Otto Addo told the press after the game.

In his spell with the Black Stars, Otto Addo took oversaw three wins and five defeats across all competitions, with theremaining four games ending in draws. He follows Belgium's Roberto Martinez as the latest coach to resign after failing to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup.
