After seeing their prime target snatched right from under their noses by bitter rivals Liverpool, Manchester United are now trying to find a replacement.

On Monday, it was revealed that Liverpool had beaten the likes of Manchester United to sign Dutch international Cody Gakpo, whose World Cup showings for his team had garnered the attention of many of Europe's biggest clubs.

This means that the Red Devils now have to go back to the proverbial drawing board as they desperately hunt for a big name up front to help lead their attack. According to reports, namely the Manchester Evening News, the English giants have turned their attention towards Napoli's Victor Osimhen as a potential option.

Osimhen, a Nigerian international, was signed for approximately $74.4 million (€70 million) from Lille 2020, which was a club record fee for Napoli. Since arriving in Italy, has has quickly established himself as a reliable goalscorer for the Partenopei, and with nine goals so far, is currently on top of the Capocannoniere charts. In addition, Napoli, who will resume action in a week with a mouth-watering clash against Inter, are presently on top of the Serie A table thanks to a brilliant start to the term that has seen them win 13 of their first 15 league ties.

As such, getting Luciano Spalletti's side to part ways with a key player will be a tall task for Manchester United, as Napoli are also keen on making major inroads both in Serie A and in the Champions League when 2023 kicks off. However, as the football transfer market has shown, any player certainly is for sale - provided that interested buyers can meet the right price.
