The Bavarians have been successful in talks to recruit the experienced Bundesliga shot-stopper.

Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer has reached a verbal agreement to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old is reportedly set to replace Manuel Neuer in goal for Bavarians following the injury to the German goalkeeper.

The latest development comes after Bayern's negotiation for the recall of Alexander Nübel from his loan spell at AS Monaco failed to materialise. In the past month, officials of the Munich club have been working around the clock to facilitate the return of the 26-year-old who was adamant to truncate his stint in Ligue 1 in favor of a move back to his parent club.

In the interim, discussions have been on course for Yann Sommer to take over the reins while Neuer recuperates. Initial reports indicated that the transfer will be complex as Borussia Monchengladbach were not forthcoming with letting their trusted No.1 join one of their main rivals. However, a report by Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg has revealed that an agreement has been reached in principle with the entourage of the Swiss international.

According to the report, Sommer - who has been at the Borussia Park for seven-and-a-half years - will only be allowed to join Bayern Munich this month should Borussia Mönchengladbach sign a replacement. The Swiss is expected to sign a contract until 2025 should all go according to plan.
