Bayern München struggled to find a suitable replacement for Manuel Neuer, but negotiations have been fruitful for the Bavarians as they have finally agreed terms to sign the man they had named as their priority.
Reports coming in from Germany and Switzerland state that Bayern were capable to sign Julian Nagelsmann's first option to replace the injured Neuer with a suitable goalkeeper, especially if the German international is not able to carry on with his career once he recovers.
The man Bayern wanted to cover Neuer was Yann Sommer, and media outlets from both countries confirmed today that Bayern and Borussia Mönchengladbach agreed to transfer the goalkeeper to Allianz Arena once Die Roten pay their rivals €8M.
If Sommer is able to fulfill certain clauses in his contract, then Bayern will have to pay an extra €1.5M in add-ons. The Swiss goalkeeper's deal with Bayern will come to an end in 2025.
Bayern's quest to find Manuel Neuer's replacement saw them tempting goalkeepers such as Sommer, Hugo Lloris, Mike Maignan, and even World Cup winner with Argentina, Emiliano Martínez. In the end, a deal for Sommer was the easiest to accomplish since the player's contract with Gladbach ended this season, and the Bundesliga side were not keen on letting him leave on a free move this summer.
Sommer will most likely make the trip with Bayern to face RB Leipzig this Friday, in what will be the first Bundesliga match in over two months, following the extended winter break caused by the FIFA World Cup.
