Chelsea have spent tremendous amounts of money in the transfer window since the arrival of Todd Boehly and that doesn't look to stop as the Premier League giants are reportedly eyeing extra additions this window.
Under their new ownership, the club have spent a whopping £460M ($567M) in the transfer window, with Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoît Badiashile, and Noni Madueke being the latest additions. However, the London giants still want more and are preparing to move for a right-back and midfielder before the ongoing window shuts close.
The right-back position has already been identified. The player Potter's side wants is none other than Malo Gusto, the highly-rated Lyon ace who continues to go from strength to strength in Ligue 1.
This is according to the Telegraph, writing that Chelsea are keen on securing a Reece James backup. While the Englishman is nearing a return to fitness, the club have struggled in his absence and will need to have depth in that position should the Three Lions superstar return to the treatment table.
Unfortunately, Lyon do not want to sell their player. The French club are currently ninth in the table and their uphill battle to qualify for Europe would be ended by the departure of the 19-year-old, who has established himself as an integral figure in the lineup this season.
However, the French starlet will be entering the final year of his contract this summer, thus leaving Les Gones in a vulnerable situation.
As for the midfielders, three names have been mentioned and to no one's surprise, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are on the list. Chelsea have already made bids for those players but both offers were rejected.
The aforementioned Argentine has a hefty release clause that can always be triggered but that might not be easy due to FFP as it will have to be paid at once. As for the Brighton ace, an offer of £55M ($67.8M) was made but that was deemed way below the Seagulls' valuation.
Barcelona's Franck Kessie is another option as the Ivorian struggles for minutes at the Camp Nou.
