It's safe to say that not all of Chelsea's big-money purchases have reaped dividends. One player that falls into this category is none other than Kai Havertz, who cost the Blues $89 million (£72 million) upon his signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.
Despite scoring the winning goals for Chelsea during the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League final as well as during the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup final, Havertz has consistently divided opinion among Blues fans and pundits due to his lack of consistency for the side. So far, despite being the team's joint-top goal-scorer alongside Raheem Sterling, the 23-year-old German international has netted a measly six goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Although not an out and out striker, the former Leverkusen player has been deployed in various attacking positions under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and now Graham Potter, yet has not been able to replicate the same form that saw him garner many clubs' interest during his time with Leverkusen.
As such, many reports have indicated that Chelsea are prepared to offload him as quickly as possible - even if it will, as many expect, come at a huge financial loss.
One team that has been linked with Havertz's signature is Bayern Munich, but the German giants have moved quickly to squash any links with the player. While PSG have been also mentioned in some quarters, Les Parisiens have not made any formal approaches or even any indications that they would feel that the German international would be of benefit to their squad.
With Chelsea having signed Joao Felix and RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku set to join this summer, as well as big-money purchase Mykhaylo Mudryk having been snatched from under Arsenal's nose, Havertz does look set for a move away from London - unless if he can somehow turn around his poor form that has earned him a fair share of ire from Chelsea fans.
