The Argentine ace admitted there were things he was not able to control during the title celebrations, which left a little void in his heart.

A month has gone by since Argentina's win in the FIFA World Cup 2022, and Lionel Messi decided to open up about the things that came with that title and those he would have loved to change.

The Argentine superstar spoke to a show hosted by Urbana Play, where he discussed some of the moments that took place during that month in Qatar, where he admitted he felt regret for his behaviour during the match against the Netherlands, which included his famous taunt "Que mirás, bobo?" aimed at Manchester United signing, Wout Weghorst.

"Some of my teammates came to me and asked me if I had seen what Van Gaal had said, and when it came to an end, we saw what happened. I did not like that. I did not like what I did. I didn't like the 'andá pa'llá, bobo', thing. We were pretty tense and nervous, and I wasn't thinking straight. I don't like people to have that image of me," Messi said.

Then, "La Pulga" remembered the legendary Diego Maradona and shared how he would have loved to see the late star handing him the World Cup if he was still alive.

"I would have liked Diego (Maradona) to give me the cup. I am glad to know that he saw Argentina winning the title from up there, because I know how much he loved the team. It would have been really nice to have that picture. I know that there are many guys up there right next to him that love me and gave us strength to go all the way," Messi added.

The footballer went on to state how his life and the lives of all his teammates have changed since that day, and admitted that winning it just before the end of his career made it even more special.

"Honestly, we will remember that day because it was when everything changed for me and for all of us. It was impressive and now we can say it out loud. We got what we wanted, what we had dreamed of for a long time. It was something I longed for during my entire career and well, I got to enjoy that near the end (of my career), Messi concluded.

Messi has stated he wants to continue playing for Argentina for as long as he can, but he is yet to announce if he will be around to defend his title with La Albiceleste in 2026.
