Juventus have been dealing with the aftermath of the transfer irregularities scandal a couple of weeks ago, and it could get even worse for the bianconeri.
According to a report by the Corriere dello Sport, the prosecutors of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) could ask for another penalty against the Old Lady, this time for their failure to present the right wages for some of their footballers.
The "wage scheme", as it was labeled by the Italian newspaper, could see the most-winning club in Serie A history being handed yet another sanction, which will certainly include a fine and the subtraction of twenty points this season. This new punishment would not oversee the 15-point reduction from two weeks back, which means that Juventus could go all the way down to three points in the ongoing campaign.
If things go as planned by the FIGC attorneys, Juventus would practically be relegated to Serie B, since they would be right at the bottom of the table despite winning eleven games this season.
The bianconeri are being accused of reporting false numbers when it comes to their players' wages back in 2020 and 2021, which helped them even their accounting balance and increased their chances of hiring more players. The FIGC has asked for 40 more days to investigate this issue, which could be devastating to the team's reputation.
These violations by Juve's former execs are not only a breach in sports' law, but also regarding federal Italian laws. Hence, there could be more punishments coming for those involved in this scheme.
To make matters even worse, UEFA are yet to have their say on this issue, and if Italian authorities keep their sights set on handing more punishments to the Old Lady, football's governing body in Europe could decide to suspend them from all European tournaments for many years.
While Juventus have asked for more time to present their case against these alleged frauds, things could really get complicated for the Italian side, known for their massive success on the pitch but also for their involvement in the Calciopoli scandal back in 2005, when the bianconeri were relegated to the Serie B and lost the Scudetti won in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.
