The Gunners suffered an unexpected loss at Goodison Park, thus missing out on the opportunity to go eight points clear at the top.

Arsenal kicked off Saturday's round of Premier League fixtures with a trip to Everton, a side battling relegation. However, with Sean Dyche having just been appointed at Goodison Park, many were wondering if there would be a new manager bounce from the struggling Merseyside outfit.

And that is just what happened! Onana and Co. managed to pull off an unexpected 1-0 victory over the league leaders, and it wasn't a smash and grab, as Dyche's men bested Arteta's club.

The only goal of the day came right on the hour mark, with James Tarkowski, Dyche's former center-back from his time at Burnley, grabbing the winner. The English center-back headed the ball past Aaron Ramsdale after receiving a brilliant cross from a corner.

Everton, who had been defending brilliantly up until then, were left with one simple task after that: keeping the Gunners at bay for the remaining 30 minutes, which they pulled off impeccably.

Martin Odegaard, Eddie Nketiah, and Bukayo Saka all had fair opportunities to score but for the most part, Jordan Pickford remained untroubled, a feat not many clubs have been able to pull off against Arsenal.

Not only did this result deny the North London giants the opportunity to go eight points clear at the top, but it also saw the visitors set a number of unwanted milestones.

Firstly, this was Mikel Arteta's third consecutive defeat at Goodison Park. In fact, the Spanish tactician is yet to pick up a point away against his former club in the Premier League. Additionally, this is the first time in history that the Gunners have lost three times in a row at this ground in the English top flight.

The performance from the league leaders was frustrating but the most disappointing element was missing out on the three points. With closest rivals Manchester City visiting Tottenham on Sunday, Saka and Co. had the brilliant opportunity to pull further ahead in the table. Now, the North London giants must focus on bouncing back in their upcoming clash with Brentford.
